Bra Size Formula

The bra size formula consists of two parts: determining the band size and calculating the cup size.

  1. Band Size Formula:
    • The underbust measurement is even, add 4 inches.
    • The underbust measurement is odd, add 5 inches.
  2. Cup Size Formula:
    • Subtract the band size from the overbust measurement.
    • The difference determines the cup size (refer to the chart above).

Emma has an underbust measurement of 31 inches and an overbust measurement of 37 inches.

Band Size: 31 (odd) + 5 = 36

Cup Size: 37 (overbust) – 36 (band size) = 1 inch difference

According to the chart, a 1-inch difference corresponds to an A cup. Therefore, Emma’s bra size would be 36A.

How Do I Measure My Bra Size Myself?

For measuring your bra size at home you’ll need a soft measuring tape and preferably wear an unpadded bra or no bra at all.

Follow these steps:

Measure your band size: Wrap the measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, just under your breasts. Make sure it’s parallel to the ground. Round to the nearest whole number.

Measure your bust size: Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your breasts, typically at nipple level. The tape should be snug but not tight.

Calculate your cup size: Subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement. Each inch of difference represents a cup size.

Let’s say you measures yourself and finds:

  • Underbust (band) measurement: 30 inches
  • Overbust (bust) measurement: 35 inches

First, you determines your band size. Since 30 is even, You add 4: 30 + 4 = 34.

Then, calculates cup size: 35 – 34 = 1 inch difference.

A 1-inch difference corresponds to an A cup. Therefore, your bra size is 34A.
