Circle Skirt Calculator – Double Circle, Half, Quarter
Circle Skirt Calculator
The circle skirt calculator helps determine the radius of the waist opening and the length of fabric needed based on the wearer’s waist measurement and desired skirt length.
We want to make a circle skirt for someone with a 28-inch waist, and we want the skirt to be 20 inches long.
A Circle Skirt Calculator would help us determine:
The radius of the waist opening
The total fabric length needed
The amount of fabric to cut for the waistband
Circle Skirt Calculation Chart
Waist (inches) | Skirt Length (inches) | Waist Radius (inches) | Fabric Length (inches) |
---|---|---|---|
24 | 18 | 3.82 | 43.82 |
26 | 20 | 4.14 | 48.14 |
28 | 22 | 4.46 | 52.46 |
30 | 24 | 4.77 | 56.77 |
32 | 26 | 5.09 | 61.09 |

Circle Skirt Calculation Formula
The main formulas used in circle skirt calculations are:
Waist Radius = Waist Circumference / (2 * π)
Fabric Length = Waist Radius + Skirt Length
To calculate for a 28-inch waist and 22-inch skirt length:
Waist Radius = 28 / (2 3.14159) ≈ *4.46 inches
Fabric Length = 4.46 + 22 = 26.46 inches
This means you’ll need to cut a circle with a 4.46-inch radius for the waist opening, and the total length of fabric from the center to the hem should be 26.46 inches.
How Many Yards Do I Need for a Circle Skirt?
To calculate the yardage:
Calculate the diameter of the skirt: 2 * (Waist Radius + Skirt Length)
Compare this to the fabric width
Determine how many fabric widths are needed to accommodate the diameter
Convert the result to yards
For a 28-inch waist and 22-inch length on 45-inch wide fabric:
Diameter = 2 (4.46 + 22) = *52.92 inches
52.92 inches > 45 inches fabric width, so we need more than one width
We’ll need two fabric widths, each 52.92 inches long
Total length needed: 52.92 2 = *105.84 inches
Convert to yards: 105.84 / 36 ≈ 2.94 yards
You'll need approximately 3 yards of 45-inch wide fabric for this circle skirt.
